Keeping Catering Equipment Clean

Keeping commercial kitchens clean is always a challenge. Busy commercial kitchens can be put through a lot of punishment over the course of a typical day, so it's far from easy to maintain certain basic hygiene standards. Nevertheless, thorough cleaning is absolutely essential in order to maintain those basic standards. Stringent legislation is in place to ensure certain standards of safety and hygiene are upheld in commercial kitchens. Not only can failure to meet these standards result in damage to both reputation and thereby profitability - it can also result in offenders being landed with severe fines. It therefore makes good business sense to keep catering equipment clean.

Keeping Workplace Bathrooms Clean

Employers are legally obliged to make every reasonable effort to ensure that workers have access to hygienic workplace toilet facilities. There are some exemptions - for instance, those relating to spatial or time constraints - but these are generally marginal. The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations Act 1992 stipulates that workers must have access to "adequate" toilet facilities, and then specifies what it means by this. Among other requirements, toilet facilities must be clean and easy to maintain, both cold and hot running water should be provided, and men and women should have separate facilities - or, where this isn't possible, the facilities on hand must have functioning locks.
